Right off the bat, my first suggestion is to consider shunning the big hotels in favor of \u201cgoing local\u201d by renting an apartment in Rome<\/a>. This is especially true if you\u2019re planning to be in town for more than just 3-4 days. (And honestly, why wouldn\u2019t you stay at least<\/em> that long?)<\/p>\n Staying in an apartment will really show you a different side of Roman life. And it might even introduce you to an area or a neighborhood that you wouldn\u2019t have discovered otherwise. I mean, no matter where you stay, you\u2019re going to see the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps, Trevi\u2019s Fountain, etc, right? So then why not claim your own little corner of the Eternal City and get intimately acquainted?<\/p>\n Many folks are attracted to the idea of renting an apartment in Rome, but are put off by the task of searching for one. They feel \u201csafer\u201d going to one of the big websites that work with all the familiar hotel chains and larger properties.<\/p>\n Two friends of mine\u2014Steven and Linda, a married couple from the U.S.\u2014started a company called \u201cCross Pollinate<\/a>\u201d back in 2000.
